Top A Book on Col. John Haslet

John Haslet was born and educated in northern Ireland. He emigrated to America and settled in Dover (now the capital of Delaware) serving as a pastor and physician. In anticipation of possible conflict with Great Britain the newly-formed state of Delaware raised a regiment. Haslet trained it well, and Haslet's Regiment fought valiently at the battles of Long Island and White Plains. Haslet was shot and killed while rallying the American troops at the battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777. His regiment became the Delaware Continentals, which continued his tradition of courage and tenacity throughout the war. Author Fred B. Walters has written the first book ever about this hero of the American Revolution. The book is described further at John Haslet, A Useful One (Bookmasters, Mansfield OH, 2005)

Re-enactments of the Battle of Cooch's Bridge

While previous re-enactments have been held near the original site, the limited space and lack of camping facilities has made it hard to attract large numbers of re-enactors. This year the Brigade of the American Revolution (BAR) has planned a large-scale effort for the Brandywine Creek State Park (on Rt 100. 6 miles NW of the Pennsylvania Ave exit from I-95 in Wilmington DE).

  Victory at Yorktown

The 225th anniversary of this siege was celebrated in 2006. The British army under Gen. Cornwallis surrendered to the allied armies under Gen. Washington of the United States of America and General Rochambeau of the Kingdom of France.
