W. Allen Greenly Installed as 122nd President General of the Sons of the American Revolution

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 15, 2026) — The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) installed W. Allen Greenly as its 122nd President General during the Installation Banquet at the Society’s 136th Annual Congress on the evening of July 15, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Founded in 1889, the SAR is the nation’s largest male lineage society dedicated to preserving the legacy of those who fought for American independence. The Society has nearly 40,000 members in all 50 states and internationally who are committed to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and educating future generations about the Revolutionary War and the founding principles of the United States.

Greenly succeeds Michael J. Elston, who completed his term as the Society’s 121st President General. During the Installation Banquet, members recognized Elston for his leadership and service to the Society over the past year.

The 136th Annual Congress brought together SAR members and guests from across the United States and abroad for a week of meetings, educational programs, patriotic ceremonies, youth recognition, and fellowship. The Congress also celebrated the Society’s continued efforts to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through its nationwide America 250 initiatives.

As President General, Greenly will lead the Society in advancing its mission of honoring the service and sacrifice of the men and women who secured American independence while supporting educational outreach, historic preservation, genealogy, and patriotic programs throughout the country.
