Announcing the Approval of the “General Casimir Pulaski Founders Medal”
The National Society and the Registrar General are very pleased to announce the approval of the General Casimir Pulaski Founders Medal, a new medal recognizing the founding members of newly chartered chapters.
To earn this medal, a compatriot must be a founding member of a new chapter. The medal is meant as an incentive to start new chapters, which in turn will help draw new members and potentially bring back dropped members. This adds new core groups of compatriots to execute the programs of the SAR in new communities. General Casimir Pulaski arrived from Poland to join the fight for American Independence and is considered the Founder of the US Cavalry. We believe this medal will help foster the same esprit de corps within the founders of new chapters as General Pulaski brought with him to the fight, one that remains evident throughout the history of the US Cavalry!
This medal can be presented to the primary chartering members of any new chapter; however, compatriots can only be awarded the medal once. The State Society decides who is to be awarded the medals, based on the initial signers of the Chapter Charter on the date it is chartered. The formation of a new chapter must meet all State Society chartering criteria. The Society Secretary will forward the Society President’s approval of the Charter, a list of Charter members entered on Chapter Charter Form (Registrar Form 1.2025), and a check in the amount of purchase, to the NSSAR Membership Manager at National HQ. The Membership Manager will update the member database and forward the information to the Executive Director to affirm and approve the awards. The approved list will be sent to Merchandise who will print standard SAR award certificates and send them and the Medal Presentation Sets (one Full Size Medal and one Miniature Medal) to the Society to schedule a presentation.
The medal set and accompanying certificate can be given to the Charter signing Compatriot Members of a new chapter, as seen fit by the Chapter’s parent Society. New Chapters, and those Chapters chartered and applying for the medal retroactively under the “1 January 2025, Look Back Period”, will be required to submit their request using the previously described process.
