The Sons of the American Revolution is pleased to welcome Monty Fields as the new Director of the SAR Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.

Fields brings nearly 20 years of experience in the museum field, with a background spanning museum administration, curatorial work, and exhibit development. He is passionate about the important role museums play in preserving, protecting, and interpreting our shared history and making it accessible to the public.

As he steps into his new role, Fields looks forward to bringing the story and artifacts of the American Revolution to Louisville and opening a new museum in a city with an already vibrant museum community.

We recently caught up with Monty to learn more about his background, his enthusiasm for the new museum, and what he enjoys outside of work.

What initially drew you to the museum field, and what do you find most rewarding about working in museums?

“I have been in the museum field for almost 20 years. I started as the Executive Assistant with a local history museum and have worked my way through various curatorial and exhibit-related positions. In addition to working in the field, for about eight years I operated a regional museum professional networking group.

“What I find most rewarding about working in museums is the fact that we are custodians of history. Museums are public institutions, and it is our responsibility to preserve, protect, and interpret the collective history of our culture and to make it accessible to everyone.”

What are you most excited about as you step into your new role as Director of the SAR Museum?

“I am excited to bring the story and artifacts relating to the American Revolution to Louisville. I’m excited to open a new museum in a city that already has an amazing museum scene.”

When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your free time? Do you have any hobbies or interests people might be surprised to learn about?

“I like to travel with my wife and two kids. We hope to visit all 50 states! I also enjoy building sets and props for Halloween and local theatres.”

The SAR is excited to welcome Monty to the team and looks forward to his leadership as the organization continues its work to share the story of the American Revolution with visitors from Louisville and beyond. Please join us in welcoming him to the SAR!
