The DAR Finder Form (FF) medal and award is effective as of 1 January 2025 (i.e. the ‘look back period’).

  • How are FF Records Maintained?
    • Individual FF submissions, as is already the practice with national awards recognized at the state and chapter level, are tracked at the state level. The FFs are already routed through the state registrars who already capture this information prior to routing to National.
  • Who is the Approval Authority?
    • Use the current practice for similar national medals (e.g. Lydia Darragh) which may be approved by a State Society President or Chapter President and is tracked, including cumulative attainment over time, at the state level.
  • Who is the Presenting Authority?
    • The presenting authority resides in the states and chapters, which is consistent with other national awards that are conferred locally. Presentation of awards should be made at the lowest level of the DAR organization – the chapter, and as soon as possible in the new year following attainment. Making these presentations at the chapter-level will further promote this award and encourage further participation.
  • Who is Responsible for Acquisition of Medals?
    • Purchase of FF medals follow current practice of acquisition by the presenting authorities – states and chapters. The medals are now available for purchase through the online store.
  • What is Precedence of Medals and How is Cumulative Attainment Achieved over Time?
  • The Adams, Sampson, and Knox medals may be worn simultaneously in this order of precedence (see SAR Handbook V, Individual Medals, Awards and Certificates, for additional information on the proper display of medals.
  • Individual attainment by count of the FF is cumulative and not limited to a calendar year, and the OLC may be awarded for continued attainment after the Knox medal as follows.
    • For ten (10 cumulative) FFs, an OLC is authorized for the Adams medal
    • For thirteen (13 cumulative) FFs, an OLC is authorized for the Sampson medal
    • For sixteen (16 cumulative) FFs, and OLC is authorized for the Knox medal
    • Additional FFs authorizes additional OLCs per the above sequence through the three medals, and wearing silver and gold OLCs is authorized per current National SAR protocol
