Frequently Asked Questions by Members

1. I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information and said they were working with the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR). Tell me more about the project. We have partnered with PCI (also known as Publishing Concepts) to produce our new member directory.

• PCI is a family-owned business based in Dallas, TX that has published directories for educational institutions, fraternities, sororities, and military organizations across the nation for over 100 years. This project allows the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution to receive important updates to our database so we can better serve our members.

2. Does National Society Sons of the American Revolution’s Sons benefit from this? Yes, in a few different ways:

• Updated Information – allows us to communicate with and engage members

• Legacy effectively – preserves the history of our organization

• Revenue – generates non-dues revenue for member programs • Pride – wearing apparel shows support and love for our organization.

3. How do I know my information will only be used for directory purposes?

• PCI is committed to protecting your information. The names, addresses, and information provided to PCI for the publication of the Directory will be held confidential by PCI, except to the extent that they are utilized in, or in the preparation of, the Directory and except as required by court order or law.

4. I would like to verify or update my information. How may I do this?

• If you received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call to speak with a real, live human representing the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution project. They will verify the information we have on file for you and make any updates where needed.

• If you received an email with an embedded link, click the link to go to the online site and review your information.

• If you did not receive a postcard or email, you may call the dedicated National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution update line at 855-936-6673.

• If you are living internationally or are unable to call the update line, please email customerservice@publishingconcepts.com. PCI will send you a personalized link to update your information.

5. Can I update the Patriot/Ancestor information?

• The Patriot/Ancestry information can only be updated by SAR staff. Any Ancestors to be changed or added must appear on a currently approved SAR membership application and/or supplemental application. Send those names and corrections to Todd Bale at TBale@SAR.org.

• A maximum of ten ancestors/patriots can appear in your listing, and they will be listed by the oldest ACN number first and the next nine in sequence.

6. Can I choose what information prints in the directory?

• When you call to update your information, you can tell the representative if you prefer any of your information be excluded. You can also communicate your preferences to PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 / customerservice@publishingconcepts.com or to the organization directly.

7. How will my information appear if there is a Prefix or Suffix to my name?

• After speaking to the company representative, an email on behalf of the Society, containing an embedded link, will be sent to you from Publishing Concepts to verify your entries.

• If you want the Prefix and/or Suffix to your name to appear with your name in the Member listing, verify or correct these on the Name tab of the email link. You can also remove the entries. Please note that your name with Prefix and/or Suffix will also be used above your photo in the Member Photo section.

• If you are an Active Duty/National Guard/Reserve or a Retired member of one of the eight Uniformed Services and want your rank to display before your name in the Member listing, you would verify your rank is entered in the Prefix field. Then, in the Suffix field, verify your Service is documented, including “Ret.”, if required. If you do not want your rank/Service to show in the Member listing (and above your photo), remove the Prefix/Suffix entries. Your Uniformed Services information may still be verified/entered on the Business tab in the “Professional Title” and “Employer Name” fields, e.g., “”Major” / “US Army”, “Colonel” / “USAFR, Ret.”

8. Can anyone purchase a directory?

• The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Member Directory is available for sale only to the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution members. You will be listed in the directory whether you decide to purchase a copy or not. If you do not respond to the project, you will still appear in the final printed directory, but with limited information.

9. When will I receive my directory?

• The total duration of the directory project is about 12-14 months. Since we began the project in late July 2023, the directories will be distributed in August/September 2024.

10. I ordered a directory/package over the phone and would like to cancel my order. How do I do this?

• Contact PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 / customerservice@publishingconcepts.com, and they will handle this for you.

11. Is the Membership Directory a fundraiser for the NSSAR?

• The NSSAR does receive compensation for the Membership Directory. Still, it isn’t enough to be a motivator independently because creating the directory is very labor-intensive.

• The most significant benefit to NSSAR is to keep the member database updated and accurate and to provide it as a service to our members.

• The other value is the directory being the 250th commemorative edition, with the commemorative logo and unique Semiquincentennial content.
