The Cultural Consortium Holds Monthly Meeting at the SAR Genealogical Research Library

On February 17, 2011, representatives of the top cultural institutions from across the region held their monthly meeting at the SAR Genealogical Research Library in Louisville, KY.  The Cultural Consortium is a group of organizations whose goal is to support one another in the production and implementation of programming geared toward local area school groups.  Members of the consortium meet to discuss collaboration opportunities, best-practice procedures and other issues that face cultural institutions in the region.

Cornerstones of Freedom & Sons of Liberty-1775, by James Muir Now on Exhibit at the SAR Genealogical Research Library & NSSAR Headquarters.
 
James Muir, an SAR member, is a renowned bronze sculptor of allegorical art from Sedona, AZ. His work is featured in universities and cultural institutions across the country, including West Point Military Academy and the Thomas Jefferson Library.

Compatriot U.S. Presidents Exhibit at the SAR Genealogical Research Library

Did you know that 16 U.S. Presidents became members of the SAR?

The SAR Genealogical Research Library is proud to now feature a display of the portraits of all 16 Compatriot U.S. Presidents. This exhibit was made possible by the generous support of the George Washington Endowment Fund. The portraits are mounted on custom-built cherry shelves that match the other woodwork in the library.  While this exhibit was previously displayed at the National Headquarters on 4th Street, it now has been updated and moved to the new library.

SAR Historic Programs Exhibit Now on Display in the SAR Genealogical Research Library

A new exhibit is now featured on the north side mezzanine level of the SAR Genealogical Research Library. Historic SAR Programs can now be viewed in the left hand display case directly outside the Mary & James S. Craik Special Collections Room.  These 12 programs range from 1892-1925 and are all part of the NSSAR Archives.  They feature many significant state and national SAR events, including early SAR Congress Banquet programs.
