SAR Genealogical Research Library Presents First Saturday Workshop

On June 4, 2011 The SAR Genealogical Research Library opened its doors for the first time on a Saturday to the public. The Library launched its summer schedule by presenting a Genealogy 101 Workshop. This free workshop was given by Michael Wells, NSSAR Library Committee Chairman, of the Alabama Society. The one-hour program covered such topics as vital records, church records, and online resources for tracing your family tree. Many workshop attendees were first time visitors to the library and stayed after the workshop to perform their own independent research.

NSSAR Revolutionary War Newspapers Now on Exhibit at Louisville Free Public Library

Three of the SAR’s colonial newspapers as well a piece of colonial currency can now be viewed by the public at the Louisville Free Public Library’s (LFPL) main branch at 301 York St., Louisville, KY. They are part of an exhibit titled Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World on display from June 1-August 15, 2011. The exhibit features a six-panel display of Franklin’s life and accomplishments that is sponsored by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Kentucky Council on Archives Holds Semi-Annual Conference at SAR Genealogical Research Library

On May 20, 2011 the SAR Genealogical Research Library was buzzing with archivists. The Kentucky Council on Archives (KCA) held its semi-annual meeting in the library, where archivists, librarians, and record managers from across the state came together to discuss issues that affect Kentucky’s archivists. KCA is a state-wide organization that supports all types of archives and serves as a platform for archives professionals to share ideas. Around 50 people attended, making it one of the most successful in recent memory.
