SAR Officers

Historian General

Historian General William O. Stone (Alabama SAR)


The Historian General, working with the Education Director, oversees the history programs of the National Society. He is responsible for establishing and maintaining a relationship with the History Departments of the several Universities located in the vicinity of National Society Headquarters in order to promote the teaching of Revolutionary War history in the Universities and various school systems. He shall assist State Society Historians engaged in the search for information about Revolutionary War historical sites, war graves and memorabilia in their respective geographical areas.

Compatriot Stone is a member of the General John Archer Elmore Chapter, Alabama SAR. He has served as Chapter President and Treasurer. Compatriot Stone has served both the Alabama Society and the Germany Society in the positions of President and Trustee. His other services include being a presenter for various Historical Programs to approximately 25,000 students. Compatriot Stone has been involved at the National level for a number of years, attending District and National Leadership meetings, along with annual Congress meetings.

Compatriot Stone has served as the President of the Old South Historical Association for three terms and works with Alabama Supreme Court and Court Library, the Montgomery County Historical Association, the Lowndes County, the Autauga County and the Elmore County Historical Associations.
