Battle Days

Point Pleasant \

October 5-7, 2007

Local reenactors put a crop of fresh recruits through the drill on Friday afternoon.   About 550 school children were

bussed to Tu-Endi-Wei State Park from throughout Mason County to learn about the Battle of Point Pleasant

and of the men who fought and died there.

Good old country music; Chief Cornstalk, leader of the Indians who fought at Point Pleasant; and

Benjamin Franklin were favorite stops for the children as they made their rounds at the park on Friday.

Compatriots from seven different state societies formed up and marched at the head of the parade down

Main Street on Saturday morning.

Dick & Norma Brockway; Point Pleasant Chapter President Jack and Jane Coles; and Central District

Vice President General Roger and Martha Barnhart.  Others included VASSAR President Joe Dooley;

Vice President General Bob & Helen Bowen; Genealogist General Chuck and Karen Bragg;

Historian General Dave and Evelyn Sympson; and INSSAR President Robert Howell.

Compatriots from 12 different societies, members of the DAR, C.A.R., and other genealogical heritage groups presented

about 40 wreaths to commemorate those who fought and died during the battle.  Former President General Raymond Musgrave, a Col. Andrew Lewis descendant, delivered the eulogy that Colonel Andrew Lewis presented on

behalf of his brother, Colonel George Lewis, who was killed during the battle at Point Pleasant.
