A scout who earns the rank of Eagle is eligible to compete in the scholarship program, provided that he has not reached his 19th birthday during the year of his application. To qualify, it makes no difference if you are currently enrolled in high school or college. The Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program offers the applicant opportunities to win awards at three levels: Chapter, State and National. To participate in the Eagle Scout Program in Virginia, Eagles must be sponsored by one of the 24 VASSAR chapters. Winners of Chapter competition will have the opportunity to compete for one of the four VASSAR cash scholarship awards, ranging from $100 to $500. The first-place winner of the VASSAR competition will have the opportunity to win as much as an $8,000 cash scholarship at the National level.

For the opportunity to win as much as $8,500 in cash scholarships ($500 VASSAR and $8,000 NASSAR) offered by the Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program, simply fill out one application form which is used for all three levels of competition. Click here for a downloadable copy of the application. One of the application requirements is to complete a four-generation ancestor chart which you can also download. The application also requires a short essay that should relate to one of the suggested topics that you can also download. Note: These files are in portable document format (.pdf). You must have the free software Adobe Reader loaded on your computer in order to view these files.

The deadline for submitting the application, including ancestor chart and essay, to the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in your area of residence is December 21, 2001.
