Battle of Guilford Courthouse

Col. Andy Johnson, commander of the VASSAR Color Guard, led the way as members of the SAR from throughout the

south moved from the headquarters building to the site of the memorial program.  Eight VASSAR Chapters were

represented, including Culpeper Minute Men, Dan River, George Mason, Col. George Waller, Fairfax Resolves, Fincastle Resolutions, Richmond and Thomas Jefferson.

North Carolina Society President Sam Powell welcomed those in attendance and spoke of the battle fought at Guilford Courthouse 227 years ago, to the day. Forty-three wreaths were presented. Nine states were represented, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maine, Alabama and Ohio. 2nd Vice President
