The Kings Mountain Chapter is located in the Johnson City, Washington Co. area.
We have local member from Jonesboro to Greeneville, and from Hamblen to Newport.

Chapter Background

        The Kings Mountain Chapter received its Charter from the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on the 20th of October 1966. The charter members were Dr. Ray Mettetal, President, William P. Bailey, Jr., Joseph K. Barker, Robert E. L. Barker, Robert E. L. Barker, Jr., Edward T. Brading, Leland K. Cardwell, Jere Michael Disney, Samuel K. Doak, Charles H. Dubbs, John B. Ellery, Wade H. Fleenor, Calvin C. Frey, Carl A. Jones, Clifford A.Maxwell, John Alan Maxwell, Martin Jerone Mettetal, Charles 0. Parker, Jr., Lester Talley Scott, William A. Starritt, Jr., and Frederick Charles Uhlmann.

        The chapter has supported the ROTC programs in the area for a number of years. These high schools include: Science Hill High School, Unicoi County High School, Daniel Boone High School, David Crockett High School, Sullivan North High School, and Sullivan East High School. The chapter also supports a senior ROTC Unit at East Tennessee State University.

        More recently the chapter has supported the Knight Essay Contest and the Eagle Scout Essay Contest. The goal for the future is support of the Rumbaugh Oration Contest. All of these programs include an award to the student participating in the program.

        The chapter is developing a program of marking the graves of Revolutionary War Patriots and deceased members of the Sons of the American Revolution Society.

        In addition to service in the local chapter, our members also serve in State of Tennessee Sons of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Meetings
 
          The Kings Mountain Chapter meets once a month unless there are conflicts which make meeting impossible. The meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month. There is a dinner meeting every other month in which the wives and/or guests attend with the members, and on alternate months the members meet for a business meeting.

        Visitors who are interested in joining the Sons of the American Revolution are welcome to attend any of the chapter meetings, but prior reservations are requested, especially for the dinner meetings. Please contact the chapter Secretary, Dr. Sam W. McKinstry or the chapter President, James Hunter Thompson at the addresses listed below.
