The Patriot Index CD is an ongoing project of the Patriot Index Committee of the SAR to provide an Index to the applications on file at SAR Headquarters in Louisville, KY.

Data for the Patriot Index has been compiled from ancestral cards on file at SAR National Headquarters, primary and supplemental applications from State Archives, and new member applications as they are approved by National Headquarters.

In most cases records of Patriots include their spouse(s) and the first generation child through which lineage was approved.

For applications approved starting about 1993, the entire lineage as it appears on the application is included. Certain State Societies, as a seperate project, entered the full lineage for all applications in their State Society Archives. These State Societies include Alabama, California, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, and Missouri with Georgia and Pennsylvania Societies entering a portion of theirs.

All Patriot Ancestors used by members in their applications are included on the CD through National Number 156,000. Some applications with National Number higher than 156,000 may be included if they were in the "pipeline". Patriot Ancestors used for Supplemental Applications are include if they were approved June 2001 or earlier.

Many records show incomplete data such as missing dates and/or locations. There are a number of reasons for this including:
1) For anyone who might be a living person, all data except the name has been excluded to protect their privacy.
2) Early applications required no dates or locations - after all these applications were based on people they knew - fathers, grandfathers or great grandfathers and such information was not necessary. Later on dates were required and still later both dates and locations were added to the requirements.
