Duplicates in the NSSAR Patriot Index

The Sons of the American Revolution Patriot Index contains many duplicate names. There are a number of reasons for these duplications the first being that the information contained in this Index came from multiple sources.

The second reason for duplicates is the basic rule of merging "when in doubt - don't."

The third reason is that this is an ongoing project. As soon as applications of new members (or supplemental applications of current members) are approved they added to the Patriot Index thus making this vital genealogical information available as soon as practical. This new genealogical information is not being withheld pending checks for possible duplications.

Because the merging of duplicate records is an ongoing process it is not necessary to notify the Patriot Index Committee of duplicates found in the files.
