Click on your Browser's (Windows Explorer or Netscape as the case may be) "Back" button to return to the previous page.
To look at a Family Group Record click on the View Button at the bottom of the Name List screen.
The various parts of the Family Group Record are:
The Person's name appears at the top of the form. A Pound Sign (#) at the end of the name indicates that the person was a Revolutionary War Patriot.
Another indication of the person being a Revolutionary War Patriot is the word Patriot appearing in the Ref Number box.
A final indication of Revolutionary War service is the Betsey Ross flag that appears on the record.
The PIN number appears to the right of the name. This number was explained previously. Do not use this number as a permanent reference or as a reference when writing SAR.
The Notes field at the bottom of the Family Group Screen contains a number of different types of information:
On a Patriot Ancestor's record the first line should always be headed SERV: followed the service designation
which was used by SAR Members when they obtained their membership followed by the state in which the service was performed. Note this does not include all possible types of service performed by the Patriot - only those appearing on SAR applications.

service designations suggested for use by SAR members. The Service Designation used in the SAR Patriot Index is that found on the application and thus may not be included in this suggested list.
A list of National and State membership numbers of the various members of SAR who used this person as a Patriot Ancestor. This National Number is the one that should always be used in corresponding with SAR National Headquaters. A code is built into to the National numbers which indicate the source of the information:
When the identifier is "SAR" with a pound (#) sign preceeding the number, the material was taken from an official "Record Copy" of the member's application. The line of descent can be followed to the SAR Member's record.
When the identifier is "SAR" with an "at" (@) sign preceeding the number, the material was taken from a copy of the application in a State Societies files. The line of descent can be followed to the SAR Member's record.
When the identifier is "ANC" with a pound (#) sign preceeding the number, the material was taken from a copy of the 3 x 5 Ancestral Card representing the member's application. This material includes only Patriot Ancestor's name and SERV: record plus a limited additional amount, of additional information depending on the time frame that the card was prepared. The members name appears preceeded with the term "DESC:".
The California Society, when entering applications from their Society Archives, also included the description of the Patriot Ancestor's service as it is shown on the member's application. This type of information only appears on a limited numer of records.
Information on the Status of an application such as F A M P S which stands for Future Applicants Must Prove Service. A question has arisen since the original application was approved as to the service of the Patriot. Future applicants who wish to use this Patriot must send evidence of his/her Patriotic Service.
