USCIS Ceremony

The Philadelphia District of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services held its largest Naturalization ceremonies on July 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  Three thousand new citizens were sworn in two separate events, 11am and 3pm, each with about 40000 new citizens and their guests in attendance.

The Chapter Color Guard posted colors, was a bright sight in the midst of the huge and crowded audiences, and was popular with the new citizens for picture taking after the ceremony.  Compatriot Lanny Patten, representing SAR, was a featured speaker at each ceremony.  The Chapter has taken part in these large ceremonies in Philadelphia over the last several years, with the Color Guard a major attraction as part of each event.

Allegiance Sunday

By Lanny Patten

On Sunday, June 29 the Chapter’s Color Guard and Compatriots  observed Allegiance Sunday  as part of regular services at Lower Merion Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr.  Color Guard members posted colors and Dr. Fred Rude read excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.  Patriotic American hymns were part of the service.
