Color Guard Report

Jim Willis, Captain of the Guard

As we close out the second quarter of our activities for 2008 I am pleased to report that your Guard participated in 18 uniformed events and a total of 106 man-events (Total of all participation in all events.) This, I think, continues the outstanding record, which has been established.  With this pace, it is very apparent we need new blood in the ranks. A look at our activity sheet will tell you the ‘old timers’ are pulling a large share of the burden. So any of our members who have a little “ham” or “show off” in their veins are invited to apply for membership. The break in period is easy and the rewards are                                                                                                       great. It is a seat of the pants type operation, which at times can be frightening.

PCC & Gov Hiester Color Guard at St James Kingsessing

We had a terrific showing at the White House Commission of Remembrance affair in the park in front of Independence Hall. Our new drummer performed well and was the hit of the show. We participated in services at Ben Franklin’s grave by the Richmond Masonic Lodge along with Sugartown Days and Mad Anthony Wayne Days.   On May 18, we assisted the Gov. Hiester Chapter in dedicating new headstones for one of their member’s ancestors at St James Church of Kingsessing in Philadelphia.

The Color Guard along with other chapter members and friends carried the flags and marched in the Radnor Memorial Day Parade and attended the following War Memorial Service. There was also a CAR/DAR/SAR Memorial service at Washington Square in the afternoon.
