Signals from the President

It is hard to believe that in three more Chapter meetings I will hand over the reins of our chapter leadership, and join the ranks of what we in the retired ranks of the Navy Reserve call the “Elephant Burial Ground”. The good news is that, like my Navy service, there is a good and stable of leaders ready and able to assume command. First Vice Jim Willis has had a taste of the requirements, as my business has taken me not only away from Philadelphia, but to Greece, Hong Kong, and tomorrow, as I write this, to Newfoundland, the ancestral home of my father. In the interim, I have been glued to the computer cranking out reports to federal judges, and Gosh NO! I am not a lawyer.

Our spring, and yes, summer has been very busy. The color guard has been going “all ahead flank, with the safeties tied down”, trying to be in several places at once. The Fourth of July will be another multi-header, and the 2nd of July our color guard will again present colors at two mass swearing-ins of new citizens. While the pace has been hectic, at least the SAR is getting nice press coverage, not only in the suburban papers, but also in the increasingly popular city paper, “The Bulletin”. We should thank our own Win Carroll for this success!

This issue will list the roster of nominees for elective office. It is a fine slate of hard working compatriots, and I hope you will make yourself be heard by coming out to cast your ballot. When you see them, give them a “Huzzah” for they have done much for the chapter and the SAR in general. We have also been blessed with members who have taken on committee assignments. These are the places where we do our best work in striving for SAR’s goals of Education, Patriotism and perpetuating the deeds of our ancestors. We have new chairs of our Knight Essay contest, Americanism, and Poster Contest. I won’t name them here; that’s for the next issue! But as I said at my installation, and yes I do remember! I have a strong and very capable team, and they, like our predecessors are doing great things. In closing, I urge our new and our younger Compatriots to come forward and get active. Yes, I know there are kid’s sports, and that is essential for parents to support, but remember, what better than taking an active part in promoting our country’s founder’s heritage, and making patriotism come alive? At the end of the day, isn’t that what we are all about

God Bless you & God bless our great nation!
