Statistics
The current site has 10Mb of storage allocated to us from National, which is adequate. The OHSSAR site is only using 73.7% (7.37Mb) of the allotted space so far. In the future, if we need more real-estate, National said that the 10Mb imposed limit is not cast in stone. National would consider an increase of space on an "as needed" basis.
Submitting Information
I am asking everyone to submit information to be placed on the web in electronic format. It is much faster and easier to post data that is already in electronic format than white papers (handwritten or typed pages). Below shows a list of preferred file formats.
Documents
HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)
Word
Rich Text Format (RTF)
WordPerfect
ASCII Text
Images
JPEG File Interchange Format (JPG)
GIF (CompuServe)
Windows Bitmap (BMP)
TIF (Tagged Image Format)
DWF (AutoCAD - Drawing Web Format)
DWG (AutoCAD Drawing)
Presentation / Spreadsheets / Special
Excel
Lotus 123
PowerPoint
Visio Drawings
AutoCAD Drawings
The file formats listed above do not pretend to be all inclusive but simply my preferred options. I have the ability to convert many different types of file formats that exist today. Please do not feel that you cannot submit some information unless it is on the above list. If for some reason you are using a very old word processor like WordStar or PC Write, or have an old electronic file that you want to submit, I will try my best to find a way to read it in to proper web format (HTML). If I am unsuccessful at converting the old file, I will ask for a printed copy so I can scan it in and use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert it to editable text.
Posting Information
I use WSFTP Pro to actually post the information to the site and publish, since Front Page marks the pages so that they cannot be accessed by other site management packages which National requires.
Turnaround time is usually 1 to 3 days, but as of lately has been running same day or next day for posting any information to the site. If you notice that the information that you submitted is not present after 5 days, please e-mail or call me at 513.985.7170 and leave a detailed voice mail message about the incident.
Sometimes the problem is not the fact that I did not add your information to the page, but could not establish connection to the National SAR ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Please submit the information you would like posted on the web to my e-mail address:
jprell@one.net as an attachment and carbon copy the OHSSAR president as a courtesy. You may simply type the information in the e-mail message itself if you prefer. If you do not have a computer, I will accept handwritten or typed information.Sometimes I receive e-mail messages with the attachment as garbage characters in the body of the message. If this is the case, I will reply to you message and ask you to check some software options within your E-mail software. To resolve this problem, under options, select MIME and allow 8-bit characters in the header for the E-mail sending format. This usually corrects the situation. If the options above do not correct the problem, then please submit the information via snail mail on a 3.5" disk or CD in a standard diskette or CD mailer to the address below.

Support
I am encouraging everyone within the Ohio Society SAR organization to submit information to be posted on the web site. This is your web site and I would like all of you to have the opportunity to contribute to the contents of it. This site will only be as good as the body of information that is present. Remember, there will be possible future SAR candidates, whos initial contact with the Ohio Society SAR organization will be through the web site itself. It is important to show the visitors who we are and what our potential is.
It is very important to keep the contents dynamic to keep it alive and not stagnant. A national study has shown that if the contents of the site do not change periodically, you will lose repeat visitors. The web site is a direct reflection of our society, do we want to portray a positive image depicting the true nature of our society as being alive and well supported or merely a "that will do" or "thats adequate" attitude?
