Bernardo de Galvez
Bernardo de Galvez figures prominently among the founding fathers depicted in the top frame. Galvez was the Spanish governor of Louisiana at the outbreak of the American Revolution, and he aided the newly formed United States by securing the British-held Gulf Coast known as West Florida, including portions of present-day Mississippi, in a series of successful land and naval battles. Galvez's contribution to the cause of American independence cannot be understated - Galvez neutralized British military presence on the Gulf Coast and seized control of the Mississippi River, eliminating British incursions from the west against Washington's Continental Army. His portrait is displayed at NSSAR headquarters in Louisville, Kenucky.
