The Laredo, Texas George Washington Birthday Parade is the oldest and largest parade of this nature in the world - this is its 113th annual celebration. Many of us in Texas have been participating in this parade for the last 8 years, and the SAR Chapter in Laredo, provides a float for anyone who can't march the 2 and 1/2 mile parade. Last year several Compatriots from Georgia, Virginia, New Hampshire and New York joined the Texas Color Guard and we had 26 men in uniform marching in front of the float, along with several women in period dress. The weather in Laredo in February is almost perfect in February, so this is a great time for Compatriots in the north to join us for the most interesting parade you will ever participate in. There are two weeks of other events, as this is much like a Marti Gras celebration. Phone the Holiday Inn across the street from the parade assembly area at (956) 727-5800 for a room at $85.00 plus tax.
