Reverend McClanahan was born in Virginia and baptized sometime around 1765 to 1768. He was even imprisoned by the State of Virginia for preaching as late as 1773. He later served as a captain of one of the Culpeper County (VA) militia units during the Revolution. His unit served at numerous battles including Guilford Courthouse.  Following the Revolution, Rev. McClanahan and his family relocated to South Carolina.
 
Judge Ed Butler, current President General and Larry McClanahan, Former President General, National Society Sons of the American Revolution will speak at the ceremony. Reverend McClanahan is the Patriot ancestor of both President General Butler and Former President General McClanahan.
