Joining the Delaware Society SAR

Why join the SAR? See the national SAR site.

Our state and chapter registrars can help you develop the documentation required for membership. Many of us belong to the The Delaware Genealogical Society, which has an excellent site describing Delaware's genealogical resources and has good links to Delaware and regional sites devoted to genealogy. People who do professional genealogical research are listed on the DGS researcher page and you may also call the Delaware Historical Society at (302)-655-7161.

The Delaware Public Archives site has a number of datafiles and other items available on-line.

The Bristor Application Template

The WMB SAR Application Template by William M. Bristor (MISSAR, deceased) is licensed as an SAR-approved program for preparing SAR membership applications. It can be used for all types of NSSAR applications: regular, supplemental, memorial, junior, and youth registrant.

You will need to download two files: the instructions and the application template. To use the application template file, you need to have a computer with Microsoft Word. These files are also available on the SAR Secretary's CD.

If you want to use the template, download the two files and save them in a folder of your choice - for example, "SARapplication".

INSTRUCTIONS:
To download the instruction file (Version 2.00), right-click on the following link and choose "Save Target As" to save the file to whatever directory you want to work in.
          brisinst.doc
Then close the Download Complete window.
Note: It is also possible to open the file directly using a left-click on the filename (rather than right-click and saving the file). A left-click will open the instruction file using the browser's MS Word reader. This will display the instructions on the screen, but the browser's rendition of an MS Word file may not have all of the command bar options of the full MS Word program, so it is best to download the file using the right-click approach.

TEMPLATE:
To download the template file (Version 2.00), use the same procedure and save the file to the same directory you used for the template.
          bristmpl.dot
Become familiar with the instructions and fill out an application.

Send an E-mail to the page manager (address at bottom of page) if you are having problems downloading the files.

There is no charge for downloading or using the template. You must, however, use special watermarked paper on which to print the formal application for submission to NSSAR. If you are working with a chapter helper (for example, the registrar) and you might get the special sheets of paper from him.

After you have entered the data into the template's data fields, the filled-in application can be saved as a Word document that can be revised for corrections or the addition of new data. Further, the filled-in application can be sent from one person to another as an attachment to an E-mail message.
