At the July 2007 Sons of the American Revolution Annual Congress in Williamsburg, Virginia, the District of Columbia Society was presented with the following awards:

The "Houston Chapter" Award given to the state society which enrolled the largest percentage of new members transferred from the Children of the American Revolution.

The Children of the American Revolution (CAR) Activity Award and Streamers, for documenting its work with the CAR over the past year.

The Howard F. Horne, Jr. Award, for the state society with the largest percentage increase of George Washington Fellows (donors of $1,000 or more to the NSSAR's charitable endowment).

 

Past Events:

DCSSAR member Maj. General Milnor Roberts opens the annual Elbridge Gerry ceremony at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. on July 4, 2007.

On September 13, 2002, former President General B. Rice Aston joined with local members of the SAR in honoring the victims of the 9/11 attacks.  At left is the late Dr. David Curfman, member, DCSSAR, and the late President General Aston at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. 

 

Programs:

America's Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty.  This is an American history program developed by the American Heritage Foundation written for students K-12. Some of the topics covered in the program: colonial history; the writing of the Declaration of Independence, and the Gettysburg Address. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FUND:

"The District of Columbia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has as one of its main objectives the sponsorship of patriotic and educational programs that emphasize the history, events and factual record of the American Revolution of 1776 and the actions of the Founding Fathers and their leadership during this era.

In this pursuit, the DCSSAR sponsors a number of annual activities that support these worthy objectives.  These programs include the "Knight Essay" competition, the "Rumbaugh Oration" competition, and other awards that recognize patriotism, good citizenship and acts of public heroism by Americans young and old."

All members of the DCSSAR are encouraged to contribute to the Benjamin Franklin Fund which supports all of these awards.  Benjamin Franklin Fund Fellows receive a gold lapel pin specifically created for this level of contribution. All contributions should be mailed to our office located at 725 15th Street, N.W., Suite 607, Washington, DC 20005.  Please make checks payable to: "DCSSAR/BFF".       

Sponsor levels for the Benjamin Franklin Fund:

$25,000 = Eleanor Smallwood Niebell Award

$17,500 = Gold medal

$10,000 = Silver medal

$5,000 = Bronze medal

$4,000 = Diamond

$3,000 = Emerald 

$2,000 = Ruby

$1,000 = Benjamin Franklin Fund Fellow*                                                                 

$500 to $999= George Washington Patron

$250 to $499= Thomas Jefferson Benefactor

$1 to $249= 4th of July Sponsor

        The DCSSAR is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions to the BFF are fully tax-deductible in accordance with applicable federal law.
