Finding a Helper within the SAR 

Many chapters or states have members who do a lot of genealogical research and who are willing to advise or assist SAR applicants with finding and obtaining copies of the documents that support the patriotic service of their ancestor and the line of descent to the applicant. Web Inquiries about Patriots 

The public can post inquiries on the RootsWeb message boards for

SAR helpers may answer them and perhaps recruit a new member.

The [external] DAR Web site has several options to get help.
Click on "DAR Patriot Lookup" to ask a DAR volunteer to look through the DAR database to see if any DAR member has filed an application based on the prospect's patriot ancestor.
Click on Genealogy, then Search Services to contract for paid assistance at the DAR Library.

The Library of Congress conducts Live Chat Sessions on Genealogy through its
[amerflag] Local History and Genealogy Reading Room. This chat room is open from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Eastern time), Monday through Friday for live chat on research-oriented questions. Click on the reading room name and an email form will open up with a chat button (on the right) that connects to a librarian.

The [external] Association of Professional Genealogists and the
[external] Board of Certified Genealogists. provide listings of credentialed researchers who can (for a fee) search for and copy documentation located far from the prospect's home. Their charge is generally less than the cost of the prospect traveling there and learning where to search for the material.
