On-line Resources for European Lineage

For most SAR prospects all of their ancestor back to the patriot
lived in the U.S., so there is no need to search non-U.S. archives.
This page is being developed for those prospects who need
documentation of birth, marriage, death, etc. that occurred in Europe.
We plan to list major on-line resources and print resources
that might be found in U.S. libraries.

Prospects with a patriot and/or most of their line in Europe
should contact the France Society SAR for assistance.

Scotland's People provides access to over 43 million records in

  • the General Register Office for Scotland
  • the National Archives of Scotland
  • The Court of the Lord Lyon
  • Scotland Online.

It has indices of Scottish births from 1553 to 1904, marriages from 1553 to 1929, and deaths from 1855 to 1954. Start with "What's in the Database".

NOTE: While the indices are free, it does cost money to see (or get a copy of) the document itself.
