From the Color Guard Commander's Orderly Book
This is a "how to do it" information website, to aid State Societies and Chapters
form the best and most authentic Color Guards for the purpose of advancing the mission
of the Society.
The National Color Guard is made up of those Compatriots who come properly uniformed to
National Society Meetings. In 1989, President General James R. Westlake
called for a NSSAR Color Guard. From six members representing five State Societies
to thirty-two members representing fourteen State Societies. Each year
it gets bigger and better. All State Societies and Chapter Color
Guards are urged to attend National Meetings and participate as members of the National
Color Guard.
The materials provided here are some basics on putting a Color Guard Unit together and
the various options to consider. As new information is found it will be
added to this site, so please feel free to check back often.
