The Patriot and Defender Program

Sponsor/Contact:   Maryland Society, SAR

Overview:  This is a program whereby students are invited to participate in learning about various important historical documents and facts about our country.  The students in order to qualify for a defender or patriot award, memorize various quotations and portions of our important documents in U.S. history.

Target Audience:  Students in fourth and fifth grades

Cost:  Award certificates denoting the student's successful completion have been designed and are available at cost.  Recognition certificates for teachers are also part of the program.

Tips:  This is a voluntary program that is meant to be an extracurricular activity.  It should be discussed in advance with teaching staff and worked into the normal curriculum of the history program.
