Allene Wilson Groves Award and Liberty Bell Award
We are pleased to announce the completion of new guidelines for the Americanism
contests, the “Liberty Bell” and the “Allene Wilson Groves” awards.
There has been a lot of time spent by the Americanism Committee revamping the
competition rules and guidelines. The deadline is February 15, following
the contest year.
The Score sheet is very simple and comes with several pages of explanation for each
individual area. By using the point guidelines and totaling each
area you will find your overall score. Be sure to read the instructions
completely and look for those areas that your Chapter or Society may enter as activities.
Some activities may be counted toward other awards and not this particular award.
If a scrapbook is submitted with for this competition it will only be considered as
a tie-breaker submission.
Scrapbooks are now used only in the President General's Cup Contest.
In the event of a tie in the President General's Cup Contest the scrapbooks will
be reviewed by the National Congress to select a winner.
The Allene Wilson Groves Award and Liberty Bell contest has been broken down into
4 Chapter categories, by membership size: 1 to 49, 50 to 99, 100 to 199, over 200,
and two first place awards for State: 1 to 499; over 500 members.
We hope that this will encourage Chapters to consider entering.
The contest covers the period from January 1 to December 31 of the contest year.
The entry is to be sent to the Americanism Chairman and a copy to the NSSAR Executive
Director by the following February 15. This will permit the committee
to review and judge the contest at the Spring Trustee’s Meeting. The
winner of each category will receive a streamer for their flag and a certificate.
The new Score sheet may be obtained from National Headquarters, or downloaded on
the link below.
The Americanism Committee has spent considerable time and effort making the contests
easier to understand and enter. If you should have questions, please
email the Americanism Chairman.
Any of the information provided can be used by SAR Members, Chapters and State
Societies for the betterment of the NSSAR and it's programs.
