The Prescott Chapter awarded to Joyce M. Wilson the prestigious Martha
Washington Award and Certificate at the annual joint SAR/DAR luncheon held
November 17, 2007 at the St. Michael's Hotel and Ballroom in Prescott. John
Thorne, SAR Chapter President, noted that this award is granted to those DAR
members who refer and assist the successful application of five new SAR
members. Wilson, member of the General George Crook Chapter of DAR, counts
among those new members her husband, Bert, and her brother Roger Mortenson,
Bill Dodge, Don Henry, and Ben Schmid, all active members of the Prescott
SAR Chapter.
The Prescott SAR Chapter Color Guard participated in the
2007 July 4 parade in downtown Prescott. After the parade the Chapter
hosted its annual Ice Cream Social to benefit a local charity. It was
held at Las Fuentes Retirement Center, and included the outstanding music
of the Arizona Old Time Fiddler's Band. The proceeds this year
were presented to Neighbor to Neighbor, which provides support services
to elders, disabled, and their families to assist in maintaining their
independence, dignity, and quality of life. Shown to the left in
the photo is Richard Hothem, Program Director, receiving the contribution
from John Thorne, Chapter President.
The Prescott Chapter Color Guard took first place in the Patriotic category at the Prescott Veterans Day on November, 11, 2006. As previous, they were wearing the uniforms of the Continental Navy.
