The MINUTEMAN AWARD
is the most prestigious award of The National Society of the Sons of the
American Revolution. The National Executive Committee established
the award in 1951. Only those Compatriots who have made distinguished
and exceptional contributions of service to the National Society may be
recognized. The recipient may receive the award only once and a
maximum of six awards may be presented each year nationwide.
The award was presented during the 117th Annual Congress, Sons of the American Revolution, in Williamsburg, Virginia, July 09, 2007. Compatriot J. Michael Jones is the only Arizona recipient during this millennium. CONGRATULATIONS Compatriot Jones!!!!!!!
This beautiful medal is of sterling silver. It depicts a MINUTEMAN holding a rifle with a plow and the Liberty Bell in the background. The medal is suspended from a neck ribbon of light blue silk.
Compatriot Jones was admitted to SAR in 1994. He has served 2 terms as Librarian General and National Trustee from Arizona. Jones served as a member of the Executive Committee in 2005, and two years as a member of the Nominating Committee. He has 24 additional years of National committee service including 1 year as Library Committee Chairman, and 3 years as vice chairman of 3 different committees. Jones was Chairman of the GWEF Board in 2004. He has attended 10 Congresses, and 12 Fall/Spring Leadership meetings. Jones was the organizer of 2 new chapters and the first line signer for 59 compatriots. Compatriot Jones is a George Washington Fellow and a contributor to the Center for Advancing America's Heritage.
