Compatriots,
Steve Renouf, NSSAR Ambassador to Spain asked me to communicate with those of you who have expressed an interest in the trip to Spain.
Because many of those interested in participating thought the trip was a bit long, and others were looking for a more economical trip, our travel agents have come up with a new plan: May 10-18.
Participants would still leave the US on May 10, arriving in Madrid on the morning of May 11. The only event scheduled on the 11th is a reception that evening at the hotel. The trip will be basically the same in Madrid as stated in the original flyer, with day trips to Escorial and Toledo. We will have two extra days in Madrid for shopping, sightseeing, etc. Bother the audience with the royal family and the Spain SAR Society Charter Ceremony will be scheduled while we are there. All participants will have an opportunity to participate. The group will depart Madrid on May 18, except those signed up for the post trip to Southern Spain, with the optional excursion to Tangier, Morroco on the African Continent.
The cost of the main trip has been reduced about $1,000 per person - $2,000 per couple. It is now $2,875.00 per person, exclusive of air. A non refundable $400 per person deposit is required. We now need only 30 members to make the trip. Costs of the post trip remain the same. It will operate May 18-21, and will return to the US via Madrid on May 21.
Many of us plan to participate in the France Society events in Paris, which have not yet been finalized. There is also the possibility of a meeting with the Great Britain Society in London before we come home. The First Lady and I also plan a visit to the US Army hospital in Germany to award Wounded Warrior coins.
The Euro has dropped in the exchange rate, and we must contract with the Spanish company in Euros. So, get your non refundable deposit in ASAP. As soon as we have 30 our travel agent will wire the money to lock in our favorable rate. All questions should be directed to Hazel Berik, our travel agent.
Those who wish to become dual members will be afforded the opportunity for $10.00 each. The ladies may want to become dual members for the Spain Ladies Auxiliary for the same cost.
Fraternally,
Ed Butler
President General
