SAR Genealogical Research Library Presents First Saturday Workshop

On June 4, 2011 The SAR Genealogical Research Library opened its doors for the first time on a Saturday to the public. The Library launched its summer schedule by presenting a Genealogy 101 Workshop. This free workshop was given by Michael Wells, NSSAR Library Committee Chairman, of the Alabama Society. The one-hour program covered such topics as vital records, church records, and online resources for tracing your family tree. Many workshop attendees were first time visitors to the library and stayed after the workshop to perform their own independent research. Genealogy 101 and other seminars held at the SAR Genealogical Research Library are educational outreach initiatives of The Center for Advancing America’s Heritage.

The next workshop will be held on July 9, 2011 from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the SAR Genealogical Research Library. Friend of the Library member Susan Covey will present her program on Soldiers’ Stories: Early War Pension Records. This highly anticipated program is free to the public compliments of the SAR membership. We invite our members, residents, and genealogists of all ages to join us as we discover these soldiers’ stories.

The SAR Genealogical Research Library will continue to be open on Saturdays from 9:30am – 4:30 pm through the end of August 2011. For additional information please contact Rae Ann Sauer, rsaueratsar [dot] org.
