On Saturday, September 8, 2012 the SAR Genealogical Research Library participated in the Kentuckiana Family Research Conference sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held in Louisville, Kentucky.  Over 300 individuals attended the conference to hear a variety of genealogy seminars, meet fellow genealogists, and view the exhibitor booths.  The keynote speaker was Dennis Brimhall, CEO of Family Search.

After the keynote speaker, attendees could choose from five seminars each hour, giving even the most seasoned genealogists a wide variety of topics.  Rae Ann Sauer, NSSAR staff Assistant Librarian/Archivist led a seminar on Revolutionary War Records.  The session focused on types of Revolutionary War service, how to document this service, and information on joining a Revolutionary War lineage society such as SAR and DAR.  Approximately 40 people attended this session.

In addition, the SAR Genealogical Research Library hosted an exhibitor’s table with information on the library.   An email sign up list was offered to attendees interested in receiving information about future events at the library.  General membership questions about the SAR were also answered.  Other exhibitors included the Louisville Free Public Library, Louisville Genealogical Society and the Irish Society of Kentuckiana.

This event is just one of many that the library participates in as part of its initiative to increase awareness in the genealogy community of the SAR’s library collection.  The SAR Genealogical Research Library will next host an exhibitor table at the Louisville Genealogical Society Annual Seminar on October 20, 2012 at Beargrass Christian Church.
