PG Butler on the Road - VETERANS DAY GALA

VETERANS DAY GALA

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Nov. 11, 2009

The San Antonio, TX chapter hosted a Veterans Day Gala at the luxurious Petroleum Club on Veterans Day evening.  Many participants were dressed in formal attire.  Several color guardsmen participated, including some from the Boerne, TX chapter.  Several DAR leaders were in attendance.  Unfortunately, Robin had come down with a cold and was unable to attend.

About 80 folks participated.  The silent auction raised several hundred dollars for the chapter, as did the rifle raffle.  There was a lovely buffet dinner with prime rib and a delicious moist and tender chicken breast with mushroom and cheese sauce.

As the feature speaker I told the group of the progress we were making on the library construction; the video monitoring agreement with the Frazier Museum; how we would acquire on permanent loan at least a part of the Remnant Trust collection; and the possibility of becoming a Smithsonian affiliate museum.  I talked a bit about the SAR trip to Spain in May, 2010.  It was a fantastic meeting.  I made sure that all in attendance received one of my commemorative coins.

That night I packed for my trip to the California society meeting in Riverside, CA.
