NSSAR Hosts 3rd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

The NSSAR is fortunate to be able to count on dozens of volunteers to help achieve its mission.  For the fourth year in a row, National Headquarters has taken the opportunity to say “Thank You” to these important people by hosting a luncheon to celebrate their service. The luncheon took place on Wednesday, October, 30, 2013, at NSSAR HQ on 1000 S. 4th St. in Louisville, KY.  Approximately 40 people were in attendance including President General Joe Dooley and Librarian General Michael Wells.

As attendees enjoyed their meal, PG Dooley and LG Wells gave brief remarks to thank them for their service.  The volunteers attending represented the local community as well as various states and several different SAR/DAR chapters. These volunteers have helped the NSSAR in several different departments at Headquarters including education, genealogy, registrar, merchandise, patriot graves, OAS, and the library.

For the second year in a row, the Lafayette Medal was awarded at the luncheon. This medal recognizes volunteers at the national level who have volunteered for 40 hours or more.  Each additional 40 hours receives an oak leaf cluster.  Several of the attendees of the luncheon were recipients of this medal and/or oak leaf clusters that were handed out by PG Dooley.

To round out the luncheon, several raffle prizes were awarded, including items such as gift cards, cookware, and tote bags.  The lucky raffle winners were:
