NSSAR Celebrates its National Volunteers

SAR member Sir Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” The NSSAR is very fortunate to have many individuals that enthusiastically contribute to the organization’s mission.  On November 14, 2012 SAR leadership thanked these national volunteers for their time and talent. Seated in the Museum Gallery in Louisville, KY surrounded by artifacts and portraits from the American Revolution, over 60 volunteers enjoyed lunch and conversation with fellow volunteers.

NSSAR volunteers represented local community residents, several different states, along with various SAR & DAR chapters. National officers in attendance included President General Steve Leishman, Treasurer General Lindsey Brock, and former President General David Sympson. Recognized volunteers have contributed in several different departments at both the Fourth Street location and Main Street. These departments include: Education, Genealogy, Registrar, Merchandise, and the Genealogical Research Library.

This year President General Leishman also awarded the Lafayette Medal to those volunteers at the national level who have accumulated 40 volunteer hours since the medal’s adoption in 2011. Several attendees received the Lafayette Medal and an oak leaf cluster signifying service of an additional 40 hours. President General Leishman expressed his appreciation for their volunteer efforts and gave many examples of volunteer projects.

Following the lunch a raffle was conducted where many lucky volunteers received such prizes as a mini food processor, Evelyn & Crabtree gift set, traveling blanket & pillow, and a Rachael Ray casserole container.
