The Induction of a Doolitte Raider and his grandsons

Col. Richard “Dick” Cole, one of the last four surviving Doolittle Raiders, and his grandsons, Elliot and Nathan Chal were inducted into the Simon Kenton Chapter, Kentucky Society on Wednesday, August 28th at the SAR Genealogical Research Library in Louisville, Kentucky.

Tom Geimeier, President of the Kentucky Society presided over the ceremonies.  The Kentucky Society Color Guard presented the Colors. Secretary General Lindsey C. Brock issued the oath of installation for Compatriots Dick Cole, Elliot Chal and Nathan Chal presenting them with their Rosettes. Compatriot Forrest Chilton followed Secretary General Brock with presenting the War Service Medal and WWII bar to Compatriot Cole.  Also during this presentation, other SARs who had served during World War II were introduced and had an opportunity to shake hands with Col. Cole and share stories.

In closing, Secretary General Brock, Michael Biagi, representing U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and U.S. Congressman John Yarmouth offered statements of honor and encouragement for what the actions of the Doolittle Raiders did for the United States during a time of war.
